The Iraq national football team is preparing for the FIFA World Cup 2026 after completing its training camp in Spain. The Iraqi team's delegation left Spanish territory on Friday and headed to the American city of Chicago to participate in the World Cup finals. The Lions of Mesopotamia had recently completed their training camp in Spain, during which they played two friendly matches against the teams of Andorra and Spain. The Iraqi team won against Andorra with a goal, while drawing with Spain 1-1. Graham Arnold, the technical director of the Lions of Mesopotamia, called up player Ahmed Mckenzie as a precautionary measure, in anticipation of the possible absence of player Ahmed Yahya, who is suffering from an injury that may keep him out of the World Cup. The Iraqi team is in Group 9 of the first round of the world's largest tournament, along with the teams of France, Norway, and Senegal.
