Iraq FA wraps FIFA registration workshop ahead of World Cup 2026
Iraq closed today its FIFA-organized workshop on player registration and administrative staff, a key step before the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Clubs from the Iraq Stars League and the Premier Division took part in proficiency tests aligned with FIFA standards. This was the final workshop before the new season, as the national team gears up for the qualifiers.

What did the workshop cover?
The two-day session focused on FIFA’s FIFA Connect and TMS systems for international transfer requests and Iraqi players abroad. It also introduced the legal portal for player compensation disputes. Zia Shadrak Yusuf, Iraq FA player registration manager, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "Keeping up with FIFA rules isn’t new, but reaching full professionalism means mastering registration and transfer laws."
The workshop also detailed the rollout of the digital player passport, training rewards, and solidarity contributions owed to clubs for youth development. Yusuf stressed the goal was to certify staff ready to serve in Iraq Stars League and Premier Division clubs, with proficiency exams for all attendees.

This workshop lands after Iraq’s 5-0 loss to Senegal on June 26, 2026. While technical matters weren’t on the agenda, it’s part of Iraq FA’s push to ensure clubs comply with FIFA rules ahead of the new season. Yusuf said: "This was the last workshop before the new season kicks off; more will follow for First Division and Second Division clubs."

Iraq FA will run similar courses for First and Second Division clubs to spread the new rules. Soon, the focus will shift to the national team’s World Cup 2026 qualifiers following the heavy defeat that highlighted gaps in both organization and performance.
